Lately we’ve seen some refreshingly good curating from newish folk around the state. In San Antonio, Jennifer Davy (a UTSA one-to-watch), and Ethel Shipton (of Project Room fame) had shows at Sala Diaz and Blue Star, respectively. The exhibitions are the best we’ve seen in these venues recently (particularly at Blue Star — which just said good-bye to director Carla Stellweg).
In big D, Purple Orchid’s Joe Allen is putting together some excellent shows; and C. Sean Horton, whose rather serious and esoteric but nonetheless worthwhile show is now on view at the MAC, is on the rise. Look to the beleaguered Arlington Museum this fall, where another Horton show will be on view.
