Luis Jimenez, Mel Chin, James Surls, Michael Manjarris, John Buck and Charmaine Locke will create large-scale outdoor sculptures to be installed in Corpus Christi in a $500,000 public art effort (thanks to the city’s 1.25% art ordinance, which stipulates that that percentage of any public construction must go towards art). The artists have discounted their fees by as much as 50% to contribute to this effort. (And the last time an important outdoor piece went up in Houston was….?)
