Just as we were about to launch into another tirade about the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston not showing enough Texas artists, along comes Helen Altman: Fire and Ice. The show opens Sept. 12 at the “Glassell ghetto,” so dubbed because it’s where Texas artists generally get to show at the MFAH. Oh well. It’s a tough space, but somebody’s got to fill it. And the shows at Glassell are hands-down more interesting than those in the main museum buildings. Look for lots of Altman’s rather puzzling packing quilt pieces in the upcoming show. And congratulations to Valerie Olsen for putting it together.
