The MFAH has published an impressive tome in conjnunction with the exhibit of the Helen Wiliams Drutt avant-garde jewelry collection, opening this Sunday, Sept. 30. The hefty, 528-pager features color plates and thoughtful write-ups on 200 of the 724 pieces in the collection, plus a complete collection catalog at the back with an image of all the jewelry and assorted drawings, sketches, etc. A big brava! goes out to contemporary design curator Cindi Strauss, whose essays provide the background for a late-20th century movement that led human adornment away from ideas of preciousness to, simply, ideas. This should be a good one — look for our preview of the actual show later this week!
