The Luminaria event planned in San Antonio for next March seems to have gotten off to a somewhat quiet start: they don't have a website up yet, so an unofficial blog has been set up by Jason Jay Stevens (of Potter-Belmar Labs) to help artists get access to proposal information, etc (the official word is that proposals are due January 7). Mayor Hardberger is behind the project, so it seems odd that more information isn't available less than four months out…one San Antonio artist I spoke to hadn't even heard about it, though a planning committee member said a big media rollout was planned for early January. The event is inspired by this past May's Looptopia in Chicago, and will feature (on a smaller scale) street performance art and late hours for the city's museums. So, OK, it seems slightly last-minute, but as one local said, "that's not odd for San Antonio."
