KERA’s Art and Seek blog is making my job easy! Just yesterday, they reminded me that the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center has announced the winners in this year’s State-Fish Art Contest. 624 Texas students drew one of the Texas state fishes (and we all know who those are) and wrote a composition on its behavior, habitat and conservation. A lucky handful won bonds worth from $50 up to $1000 for Dallas’ Margaret Sone, who placed first in the 10-12th grade category. Prizes aside, Every entrant received a certificate and a free fishing lure from Strike King Lure Company. If you’re thinking of entering next year’s contest, the deadline is March 31.
