Acclaimed Houston artist Robyn O’Neil was chosen as the winner of this year’s $50,000 Hunting Art Prize, giving the erratic, much-maligned (but nevertheless much-entered) event a new gloss of artworld respectability. Her drawing, A death, a fall, a march: toward a better world was chosen from among 129 finalists’ works, which were picked from over 1,500 online entries.

She gave a great speech too! I congratulated her afterward, and she was just great! So nice. She was ON last night and people seemed collectively happy for her. I sure was!
