Although attendance is steady, charitable donations have taken a drastic hit and The Austin Museum of Art has again trimmed its staff and salaries to accomodate tight economic times. Unlike big banks, insurers and auto companies, AMOA is taking the high road: its senior staff that are taking the pay cut, while programming and museum hours will continue mostly as before. Five full-timers have been eliminated, leaving 25, and eveyone’s taking a 1 week furlough. Director Dana Friis-Hansen says the museum will do more with less: bringing in only one travelling show at a time and expanding it focus on local art. Maybe we should have a recession every year?
