James Rosengren is the University of Houston’s Blaffer Gallery’s new deputy director. The Blaffer’s 11th full-time staff member, who has both a BFA and an MBA, was working as an independent consultant for technology start-up companies in Florida. Before that, he was interim director of Central Florida Community College’s Appleton Museum of Art, where his ugly chores included improving financial controls and eliminating inherited budget deficits. As deputy director of Blaffer Gallery, he will provide oversight of museum administration, finance, physical plant and security operations. Jonathan Hopson, preparator, has also joined the Blaffer team, moving over from the MFAH.

Not surprise, or disappointed. Their museum’s building is a stinker, too.
