In a ceremony at the White House yesterday, Blaffer gallery’s Young Artist Apprenticeship Program was recognized with a a Coming Up Taller award and $10,000 from President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities. Blaffer curator Katherine Veneman and forme YAAP participant Jassica Flores went to Washington to recieve the award given out to only 19 of the 420 applicants. Established in 1998, Blaffer’s YAAP program brings an intensive art-making experience to area high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. by matching a dozen teenagers with two professional artist/mentors.
