The Texas Commission on the Arts, after two years of record-setting grant levels, will be facing what it calls "a major cutback in funds", from the new, budget-squeezing 82nd Texas legislature, and is already strategizing on how to keep the arts and it’s revenue-creating potential at the top of the minds of our representatives. It’s looking grim: state agency budget reductions could be as large as “75 or 80 percent,” according to a quote from Representative Jim Pitts, chair of the House Appropriations Committee.
