Just in time for the “Masterpieces of Impressionism” show, The MFAH shop has a new 1000Museums kiosk where “art lovers can search for their desired reproduction, choose the size and frame, and place their order to be delivered to their home.” Nearly as good as the real thing, each poster is “approved by the museum’s curators prior to being made available to the public.” and “printed on archival, acid-free paper and have a color permanence rating of greater than 100 years.” A portion of each sale goes to the museum that owns the work, presumably a fee for allowing 1000Museums to scan it, since only rarely do the institutions hold the copyrights to masterpieces they ostensibly maintain for the public’s benefit.
