Work begins today on the resurrection of the Mary’s Lounge mural on Westheimer near Montrose in Houston. The painting, which for years identified the iconic Montrose bar as ground zero for the Houston gay scene, has been weathered, papered-over and obscured. The latest project by Cody Ledvina’s Montrose Improvement Bureau is supposed to be finished just in time for the Houston Pride Festival and parade on Saturday, June 25.

I am glad you are bringing it back, I know the original artist, Ms Scotty and the drag queen on the mural was my good friend Ms Rita
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU for bringing it back! I’ve missed seeing the mural and so appreciate that it’s being recreated!
THANK YOU!!!
What about Fanny’s pictures on the bar counter tops; were they preserved they date from before I was a little queen, 30-40 years of Pride. I hope ‘Michael’ saved the countertop.
Wilde Bill, not to worry, GCAM is in possession of the bar tops and various other artifacts.
