Lawndale Art Center’s Big Show had its big opening on Friday; juror Larissa Harris bestowed three $1000 awards on Rodney Flores, Emily Grenader and Matt Messinger. This year’s big show is only moderately big, 121 works by 73 artists are included, weeded from a field of 972 works submitted. This time around, the public can vote electronically for the first-ever CultureMap People’s Choice Award, to be announced at the beginning of August.
