Judith H. Dobrzynski’s Real Clear Arts blog on ArtsJournal discusses the results of a Metroplitan Museum of art photo contest: visitors were asked to take close-up snapshots of details of objects in the museum’s permanent collection then submit their favorites for jurying. The Met, contrary to many museums’ leery attitudes towards any photography in their galleries, invited viewers to use photography as a bridge to closer looking- coming up with some interesting results. She ends by opining that “this is one of these experiments that should not only be repeated at the Met, but also replicated at other museums.” Maybe the next contest could focus on those endearing “make kissy faces in front of the famous nude sculpture” genre . . .
