Houston’s Lawndale at Center has announced it’s latest crop of residents: Seth Mittag, David Politzer, and Anne J. Regan will each get nine months of studio space, $1500 for materials and a $500 per month stipend to do their thing, to be featured in a show in May 2012. Sculptor Seth Mittag, a UH grad, moved to NY for a couple of years, where he worked on puppets for animated films; he will use his Lawndale residency to work on a film project. Video artist and itinerant resident David Politzer has lived in Upstate New York, Boston, Brooklyn, Glasgow, Oakland, Roswell, Youngstown and now Houston, TX, his video, photography, performance and sculpture uses an intimate and straightforward, humorous approach to relationships, body image and self-confidence. Anne J. Regan, with a newly-minted MFA from UH, “can be found rambling through the heavy Southern landscape or gassing up en route to another site on an endless list of musical haunts, forever on the lookout for a home,” meanwhile collecting snippets of music culture and organizing mixtapes. The three were selected from a pool of 61 applicants by Elaine Bradford, artist and Lawndale Programming Committee Member; Rachel Hecker, artist and UH Prof; and Todd J. Tubutis director of Blue Sky, an arts org in Portland Oregon.
