Oak Cliff designers Julie McCullough and Neely Coker of Make + Made and stylist Marisa Dukowitz created an outdoor installation at the DMA’s Flora Street Entrance to celebrate the DMA’s Gaultier show. Likewise, the Museum’s Friday, November 18 late night event will be a fashion excess extrvaganza: Oil and Cotton Creative Exchange of Oak Cliff has organized Gaultier-related pieces by three Dallas artists for the event: June Covington will share fiber arts history and give guests the opportunity to try spinning and weaving. Dallas-based artist Crisman Liverman will perform his dress – a billowing, sculptural patchwork of fabrics creating an interactive dance party for museum-goers to enter and/or behold, in the DMA’s Fleischner Courtyard. Delicate threaded-text pieces Rebecca Carter will be on view in the Museum’s Concourse. in addition there will be crepes, hatmaking, and an outdoor screening of The Fifth Element (with Gaultier-designed costumes).
The Late Night installations are the latest in a series of collaborations between the DMA and local organizations including Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, the South Dallas Cultural Center, and Thriving Minds.
