Wood-firing ceramics is an ancient technique grounded in traditions of community collaboration, cooperation and camaraderie, in which kilns are fueled by the continuous addition of wood into a fire chamber, allowing temperatures to reach over 2400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Three renowned artists will travel to Texas Tech on February 15-23 to participate in Cone 2012: Texas Woodfire Gathering, a week-long symposium featuring ceramics demonstrations and a wood kiln firing. Bede Clark, Dale Huffman and Eva Zethraeus will give talks and demonstrations as Texas Tech ceramics faculty Juan Granados and Von Venhuizen, fire three wood-burning kilns. Once inspected and cooled, work produced during this gathering will travel for an April showing at West Texas A&M in Canyon.
