In collaboration with HEC Montréal and Bocconi University Graduate School of Management, SMU’s Arts Management and Arts Entrepreneurship program will finalize an agreement on May 30 to launch a new 12-month International Arts Management Master of Management Degree (M.M.). Beginning in fall 2013, the new M.M. degree will be the first to focus on issues unique to international arts management and to approach arts management from a global perspective. The program includes four-month sessions at each of the three partner universities and combines standard management courses with courses addressing the unique challenges of leading arts organizations. The idea is to prepare students to manage and lead international arts and cultural organizations.
The participating institutions likewise blend business and art: HEC Montréal, Canada’s first business school, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2007; SDA Bocconi School of Management is a leading school of management in Italy, part of Università Bocconi, the first Italian university to grant a degree in economics. According to their press release, “The goal of the Meadows School of the Arts, as a comprehensive educational institution, is to prepare students to meet the demands of professional careers,” adding that “It is also committed to providing an ongoing opportunity for all SMU students to grow in the understanding and appreciation of the arts.” Whew!
