The Southwest Alternative Media Project (SWAMP) is launching a Citzen-Filmmaker Competition in honor of it’s 35th Anniversary and invites everyone to compete. The rules are simple: using a mobile device (not a dedicated camera or video camera) contestants make 2-minute movies and upload them to Youtube or Vimeo by September 16 at midnight. The most “likes” by September 23 wins a screening at the MFAH, just before their upcoming Manhattan Short Film Festival. Although “The Citizen Filmmaker Contest is the opportunity to engage in your community, create a dialogue through videos, and support one another,” no pornographic images, vulgar language, or on-screen violence are allowed.
SWAMP was founded in 1977 through the vision of the internationally acclaimed filmmaker and educator James Blue, with founding director Ed Hugetz and initial financial support of Houston philanthropists John and Dominique de Menil.
