The Houston Arts Alliance (HAA) has announced a new project in Houston’s East End in the fall of 2014 called “Transported + Renewed.” It is three-month creative “placemaking” project that celebrates the centennial of the Port of Houston and the inauguration of the Houston METRO East End Light Rail Line by presenting a mix of community-based and contemporary art projects in the city’s historic East End. The theme of the project seems to be transportation: “to celebrate the fascination our citizens have with all forms of transport – tugs, ships, railroads, bicycles, art cars, trail rides, low riders, dragon boats, SLABs, food trucks and more.”
HAA states that it has a “small pool” of grant funds available to Houston artists, nonprofit organizations and university departments to present performing and/or visual arts events. (The maximum request is $10,000 for individual artists and $15,000 for organizations.)
There is a one-hour application workshop on Monday, October 28 at noon and again at 5:30 p.m. at HAA’s Alliance Gallery. Applications are due November 20.
