There seems to be a lot of exhibitions about food recently, as well as related programs about food rituals (now referred to in art terms as “relational aesthetics”). The Blaffer Art Museum is at the tail end of its exhibition Feast: Radical Hospitality in Contemporary Art; the Houston Center for Photography just opened See Food: Contemporary Photography and the Ways We Eat; even Stephen Lapthisophon’s current installation at the DMA is called coffee, seasonal fruit, root vegetables, and “Selected Poems.”
The Art Institute of Chicago’s current show, Art and Appetite: American Painting, Culture, and Cuisine, has nothing to do with Texas art, but it does include some classics to pass on for the holiday. Happy Thanksgiving!
