Like many cities, San Antonio receives most of its public funding for arts and cultural events through tourism and hotel taxes. The basic thinking behind this structure is that exciting public art and arts organizations=more tourism=more public money for arts. The city organization that manages all this is called the Department for Culture and Creative Development (DCCD) and they are looking to make some changes. According to the Texas Public Radio News, the DCCD is looking for public input on how to proceed.
Arts organizations, artists, and folks who just want a say in the future of San Antonio’s public art and culture are invited to attend the following public hearings:
Saturday, January 25 (9 am-3 pm)
Monday, February 3 (5:45 pm-7 pm)
