The panel for the $830,000 commission at the George R. Brown Convention Center (GRB) met Monday night and the Civic Art Committee (CAC) of the Houston Arts Alliance (HAA) met at 4pm Tuesday to discuss the state of its “reconsideration” of the GRB project.
It was the CAC that overturned the selection committee’s final choice of artist Ed Wilson for the GRB commission last November, prompting the resignation of HAA’s Director of Civic Art & Design Matthew Lennon, as well as some uncomfortable press for HAA and a lot of questions about its process. We’ll have to wait and see how the committee’s tentative reconsideration moves forward, but sources say that only three of the original seven finalists have thrown their names back in the hat.
On another note, apparently Matthew Lennon moved back to Seattle this weekend.
