Louisiana Channel, a web platform for the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk, Denmark, is a wonderful resource. “The Louisiana team produces videos about art and culture on an ongoing basis, and new videos are posted at the site every week.”
They have a series of shorts titled “Advice to the Young” featuring various artists. Watch below Patti Smith’s advice: “Build a good name,” rock poet Patti Smith advises the young. “Keep your name clean. Don’t make compromises. Don’t worry about making a bunch of money or being successful. Be concerned about doing good work and protect your work.”
And while you are receptive to advice, both Laurie Anderson and David Byrne caution artists to avoid being pressured into limiting themselves artistically even if it means not making those millions.
