Construction has already begun on San Antonio’s $175 San Pedro Creek renovation project, which also includes a permanent public art installation, all of which is planned to be completed in time for San Antonio’s Tricentennial celebrations in May of 2018. The Rivard Report recently gave details on the four finalists chosen to submit designs for their art projects.
Alice Aycock from New York, Jorge Rodríguez-Gerada, a Cuban-American now in Barcelona, Casto Solano of Spain, and San Antonio’s very own Chris Sauter have until mid-October to submit their proposals and the winner will be announced on November 1. Meanwhile, each artist will receive a $5,000 stipend to begin work on their designs. Bexar County will pay for the final public art installation up to $730,000.
The winning design should “bring life to imagery that speaks to diversity, inclusivity, tradition, and the future of our community,” said the Bexar County Heritage and Parks Department director, “as well as create excitement and interest within the community.”
