As an extension of the Nasher Prize, the Nasher Sculpture Center has put out a call for “for graduate papers addressing themes within the work of the 2017 Nasher Prize Laureate.” This is for its inaugural Nasher Prize Graduate Symposium; its goal “is to expand scholarship on the field of contemporary sculpture.” This year’s Nasher Prize laureate is Pierre Huyghe, so there’s plenty of material to mine there.
The symposium gives a chance for MA and MFA students to present scholarly papers on the topic, get feedback from professionals and attendees, and have their work published in a Nasher Prize Graduate Symposium compendium. Proposals are due by December.
The keynote speaker for the symposium will be Nicolas Bourriaud, best known for shaping the conversation about Relational Aesthetics. (Via Nasher: “The work of Pierre Huyghe, because it so often involves the participation of the viewer or living systems, often falls within this rubric.” )
