Art students at Texas A&M in Bryan-College Station are having a hard time finding art supplies, reports Katherine Garcia of The Battalion. Unlike most college towns with an art department, the area only has craft stores. Many students rely on online sites to order supplies, but the prices fluctuate greatly, and most art students aren’t known for their excess of cash.
“To get the highest quality of work, you need higher quality supplies,” marketing senior and visualization minor Jessica Tran said. “So sometimes Hobby Lobby or Michaels isn’t exactly the highest quality.”
Huh. Big schools aren’t necessarily the best place to make big art.

Who in their right mind would go to A&M to be an artist?
Why would anyone discount a whole program for such a reason?
I went to A &M and some of the best art instructors I have ever had taught there.
FWIW I wrote a piece about art on the A&M campus a couple of years ago:

It was my first visit to campus and I enjoyed it very much. I know some great artists who went to A&M, even though (because?) they don’t have an art school.
I bought some conte black crayons at the A.&M. student center store back in the 80s that was on clearance and had a price tag labeled “Exchange Store” !!
Now that…. is old . I will donate it to a museum one day.
