The Lost Pines Art Center, located in Bastrop (about 30 miles southeast of Austin), is near completion of “a nerve center for arts in Central Texas,” reports the Austin American-Statesman. It opened nine months ago and has already had 10,000 visitors, but there are still big plans for the finishing touches.
The Statesman states: “Still on the drawing board are several planned projects in back, including a sound stage for outdoor concerts, a water feature replica of the Lower Colorado River, a sculpture garden, and conversion of four silos into maker spaces and an artist in residence, which will memorialize the 2011 Bastrop County Complex Fire.”
The artist-in-residency will be a national program providing living and working space in exchange for teaching other artists.
The two-story building includes large exhibition areas, shops, artists’ working, teaching rooms, and has a 12,000 square-foot glass and metal gallery.
