The Dallas art spaces the MAC and The Cedars Union in the Cedars neighborhood have teamed up for an event called Bring Your Own Beamer Cedars (BYOB Cedars) on Saturday, October 14 from 7-11 PM.
Via the MAC: “This one-night-only outdoor exhibition invites artists and creators of all disciplines to bring their own projector (often referred to as a ‘beamer’ in Europe) and media player and cast visual content onto the walls of buildings throughout the Cedars, showcasing the vibrant arts community and walkability of the historic neighborhood. ”
This type of ‘BYOB’ event, which started in Berlin, has taken off in the US in recent years (in Houston, Aurora Picture Show and the Menil have been doing this annually). The Cedars’ version is an open call, and also has curated programming, which includes projected works by Chuck & George, Adam Fung, Julie Libersat, Sean P. Miller, Kris Pierce, Carolyn Sortor, Alison Starr, Fabiola Valenzuela, and others. There’s also a performance organized by Dallas Ambient Music Nights.
“Participate or observe – everyone is invited! Those interested in participating need only bring a projector of any kind (LED, LCD, mini, overhead, slide carousel, homemade, etc.), media player, and their time-based artwork – something old, or new, or experimental. Participants are encouraged to arrive anytime between 7-10 PM, and may check in at The Cedars Union or The MAC where they will be directed to an available location. Maps will be available at any participating venue.”
On the night, the MAC and The Cedars Union will collect donations to benefit the Harvey Arts Recovery Fund. If you have questions, email [email protected].
