The Community Artists’ Collective installed the “Quilt Peace” sculpture on September 20 in front of the building at 4101 San Jacinto, meant to stand throughout the Quilt Festival Houston at the George R. Brown Convention Center in early November, one of the largest annual conventions in town.
Someone with heavy-duty tools, though, took offense and dismantled the sculpture. Two weeks after its installation, the pieces were found lying flattened on the ground. What was the cause of the vandalism: quilts? peace? sculpture? The pieces were not seriously damaged and will be reassembled.
