Thanks Hodge and Blay for a fun subgenre list and for doing at one of my favorite Houston galleries. (And thanks for reminding me about that MF Doom.) I want to add a mention, at least for historical importance, of the first rap record released on a major label, big hit in late-1979 the same year as ‘Rappers Delight’ hit, and the FIRST hip hop Christmas song: Kurtis Blow’s ’Christmas Rappin’.
