CO-OPt Research + Projects, the DIY artist-run Lubbock art space, library, and studio is hosting a FREE open call. Under Pressure, an “experimental juried exhibition that aims to create dialogue between artists and art works about the myriad pressures of the contemporary moment: the pressures we exert as well as the pressures placed upon us,” will be designed for window viewing only. (CO-OPt has more than 208 square feet of window space at the front of the building, and the entire gallery space is easily visible from the sidewalk outside.)
While the exhibition will run from February-July 2021, submissions will remain open throughout the duration of the show, with the review process beginning February 7, 2021 (all submissions will be reviewed on a biweekly basis until July 1, 2021). As new submissions are received, art works will be added, moved, or removed from the gallery. This means that some works may stay in the space for longer than others. Artists working in any media are encouraged to apply, and CO-OPt states that “For photographic works that can be reproduced digitally, we may be able to print your work onsite. This will be determined on a case-by-case basis.” The submission guidelines also state that the art space’s broadcast radio station, 89.9 KOOPT, can play sound pieces from outside the gallery, and they offer to provide performers for certain works. All works will be featured on the CO-OPt Research + Projects website and social media, and will be updated as the exhibition evolves. At the culmination, CO-OPt will publish a catalogue.
To submit, please send a single PDF document with your name, brief artist statement and/or project statement, and no more than five Images of submitted works/project(s) to [email protected]. For complete submission requirements, please visit CO-OPt’s website here.
