There is no modern painter I can think of who touches Currin.

He represented a kind of painting-uncle figure to me in many respects because of what and how he painted. From early on, his paintings gave me permission.

Already there is evidence of voters saying: "I didn't realize this would be the outcome; if I could vote again, I'd reverse my vote.”

Maybe something fabulous and unexpected can occur here, something vaguely ‘illegal,’ something wild, something heinous, something bad.

Not because they were better painters or the paintings were better, but because of who and what they were, when they lived, what they ate, how they dressed, how they sat. All these things… .
