An Almost Rainbow is an exhibition of multi-dimensional drawings about the almost and not-yet-made. It is a site-responsive installation of oil paintings, works on paper, and sculptural forms inspired by piles of rubble and construction debris. With recurring imagery of rainbows, stones, and ghosts, the drawings reimagine their subjects as icons and objects of potential.
Visually and physically ephemeral, the exhibition blurs the distance between absence and
presence, longing and the unattainable. Dissolving the boundary between the made and unmade, the works visually break down, expand and rebuild their surfaces, subjects, and sites. With suspended, hollow plaster casts of stones, bricks, and rebar, the project makes the heavy
light and asks how to make the impossible more real. An Almost Rainbow invites the viewer to
navigate the ‘almost’ as an immersive space of possibility.
Sarah DePetris is a Dallas-based artist whose practice integrates painting, installation, and
sculpture. She makes multi-dimensional drawings that capture the energy and potential of the
almost and the not-yet-made. Abstracting imagery of found piles of rubble and construction debris, her works are bridges between the real and imagined. DePetris exhibits her work nationally, with multiple recent and upcoming solo exhibitions. She recently completed a public art installation at the Art Tooth ArtSouth Box in Fort Worth while participating in their residency at Muse Studios. Her works are included in the permanent collections of Capital One and the University of Texas at Tyler. DePetris received her BFA at the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2009 and an MFA from the College of Visual Arts and Design in the spring of 2023.
